York City Bureau of Health Celebrates National Public Health Week and 40 Years of Keeping York City Residents Healthy

During National Public Health Week, the York City Bureau of Health celebrates 40 years of serving the residents of York City. Just during Mayor Helfrich’s administration, since 2018, the dedicated employees of the Bureau of Health have helped 7,500 individuals, accounting for 16% of the city’s population, with immunizations, maternal and child health care, overdose prevention, treatment of tuberculosis, sexual wellness, and women’s health services. Over 2,000 new mothers and their babies have received personal care counseling. If the average person cared for is connected to 3 other family members or co-workers, in terms of the benefits of public health, well over half the population of the city has been positively impacted by the Bureau’s work.

April 7-13, 2025, is National Public Health Week. Mayor Michael Helfrich praised the city’s Bureau of Health: “During Public Health Week, I thank all the dedicated public servants who help protect health one-by-one, accumulating in benefits to tens of thousands of our city’s residents. Public health is a critical responsibility of government, and plays a major role in the social and economic health of our nation’s communities. And our Bureau of Health is leading the way.”

The Bureau will continue to make a difference. For more information on Bureau of Health services, please call 717-849-2299.
