There is an upcoming heat wave, starting this Friday into next Friday, June 14th through 21st. These specified days are forecasted with temperatures in the 90’s. Our trash collector may begin their day of collections 1 hour early, at 5 a.m., to avoid an extra hour in the searing heat.
We know that physical labor during extreme heat, like continuous walking, bending, and lifting, poses increased risk to outdoor workers. When heat and physical labor are combined, it can often result in heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Collections starting 1 hour early, at 5 a.m., means one less hour of physical exertion during the peak temperatures of the day.
This Friday, June 14th and continuing through Friday, June 21st, all City contract collections by Republic Services may begin as early as 5 a.m. Customers must place items out after 5 p.m. the night prior to collection and by 5 a.m. the day of collection. The hauler will not return to collect items placed out after 5 a.m.
Let us acknowledge the hard work of these workers and ensure their well-being during this challenging heat wave. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
