On Sunday February 9, 2025, at 1753 hours, the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services was dispatched to 326 W. Cottage Place for a structure fire. Upon arrival there was smoke showing from the third-floor roofline from the entire row of houses. Within minutes of arrival, fire was showing from the roofline of 316, 318, and 312. Crews began an aggressive fire attack, and a second alarm was transmitted for additional resources and personnel.
The fire was halted from further extending down the row at 308, involving eight houses, 308, 310, 312, 314, 316, 318, 324, and 326. A third alarm was then transmitted for additional personnel. Crews were able to contain the fire to those units and the fire was brought under control in about forty-five minutes. The York City Fire Department remained on the scene for several hours extinguishing hot spots and making sure the fire was fully extinguished. Upwards of forty people were displaced with Red Cross assisting those residents. No injuries were reported. Fire damages are estimated to be over $400,000.
The fire investigation was conducted by York City Police Detectives and the York City Fire Department. The cause of the fire appears to have started at 318 W. Cottage Pl., third floor ceiling, electrical in nature, and accidental.
