Collections Begin 1 Hour Early at 5 Am in York City Due to Continued Wave of Extreme Heat Monday June 24 Through Wed June 26

The grueling heat wave continues into next week, including Monday, June 24th through Wednesday, June 26th. These specified days are forecasted with temperatures in the 90’s. Our dedicated trash collector may begin collections 1 hour early, at 5 a.m., to avoid an extra hour in the searing heat.

We know that physical labor, like continuous walking, bending and lifting during extreme heat poses increased risk to outdoor workers. When these conditions are combined, it can often result in heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Collections starting 1 hour early, at 5 a.m., means one less hour of exhausting physical exertion during the peak temperatures of the day.

Now through next Wednesday, June 26th all City contract collections by Republic Services may begin as early as 5 a.m. Customers must place items .out after 5 p.m. the night prior to collection and by 5 a.m. the day of collection. The hauler will not return to collect items placed out after 5 a.m.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Let us acknowledge the hard work of trash collectors and ensure their well-being during this challenging heat wave.
