The City of York’s Annual Arbor Day Celebration will take place at Penn Park, 100 W College Ave, from Noon to 2 pm on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. For the first time since COVID, school students will be part of the event. The students from Jackson Elementary will be taught how to plant a tree, participate in a tree ID scavenger hunt, and meet Smokey Bear.
At 1 pm, Mayor Michael Helfrich, City Forester Trace Wilson, and others will speak, followed by a ceremonial tree planting with a sign recognizing Jackson Elementary students. The students will go home with a small tree sapling.
Trees can reduce the erosion of topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen, and provide habitat for wildlife. Trees in the City also increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, and beautify the community. Because of the City’s care for its trees, York has been recognized as a Tree City USA for more than 40 consecutive years by the National Arbor Day Foundation.
