On Friday December 3, 2021, at 2154 hours, the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services was dispatched to 261 N. Hartley Street for a structure fire. While en-route, the address was corrected 306 Roosevelt Avenue, the first unit arriving in three minutes. Upon arrival, there was heavy fire showing from the third floor of 304 and 306, the rear of both houses being well involved. Crews were advised of a civilian trapped on the second floor of 306 from bystanders. Despite of an aggressive interior attack and search, a male resident was found deceased on the second floor in the home by fire department personnel.
The fire had ultimately extended to 302, 304, 306, 308, and 310 Roosevelt Avenue. The fire went to 3 alarms with assistance provided from several departments. The fire loss is over $275,000 for all affected properties. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
The fire investigation is being conducted by several agencies, which includes the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services, York City Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police. The cause of the fire is ongoing and still under investigation.
