On Sunday October 06, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., active, retired, and volunteer members of the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services, and their families, will be attending the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) 38th Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD.
Fire Fighters Ivan Flanscha and Zachary Anthony who were killed in the Line of Duty on March 22, 2018 at a fire at the Weaver Organ and Piano Building will be honored along with 119 other fallen firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2018.
Every October, the NFFF sponsors the Memorial Weekend which starts Friday October 4th. The weekend consists of welcoming the families of fallen firefighters on Friday. Saturday is family day where families have activities, small group sessions for Fire Chief’s, Incident Commanders of Line of Duty Death (LODD) incidents and for co-workers. Saturday will end with a candlelight vigil to be held on campus and is open to the public (weather permitting). Sunday is the memorial that will forever display the names of Firefighters Ivan Flanscha & Zachary Anthony on the memorial.
