About the Wastewater Treatment Plant
In 1907 the citizens of York wished to convey their waste out of the city. This was done by constructing a pipeline from the city to just north of York where today, a modern wastewater treatment plant exists. In 1914 the first treatment facility was constructed which included Imhoff Tanks and Sludge Drying Beds. Today, after several major improvements, the City of York WWTP produces a quality effluent that is discharged into the Codorus Creek.
The dedicated staff of the York City Wastewater Treatment Plant will safeguard the environment and public health by maintaining the highest level of treatment at the lowest attainable cost to our customers. This stewardship will be accomplished through sound fiscal management, the use of advanced technology, staff education and training, and the application of "Best Business Practices" of the industry.
