In her official capacity, Carla has taught, spoken, lectured and performed at Penn State-York, York College, Art Institute - York, YouthBuild and New Hope Charter Schools, William Penn Senior High School, Martin Library, YorkArts, Parliament and King's Courtyard Art Collectives and many others. She frequently serves as a judge for local poetry and writing competitions and as a tutor/coach for young performers. She has appeared as a cultural ambassador and featured performer in Harrisburg, Gettysburg, Lancaster, Hanover and Baltimore.
A winner of multiple awards, Carla is also the host of Culture & Main, a weekly cultural showcase that airs on White Rose Community Television, ch 18, Wednesdays at 7pm and a monthly poetry open mic at King's Courtyard Art Collective every third Friday at 7:30 pm. In addition, she is the president of the Poetry Council of York and runs PoemSugar Press, an independent publishing house which specializes in helping first or second time authors learn about the publishing process while creating their work. She is the author of "Song" from Columbia University Press and "Baby, Read Me Something with Rhythm" and "Addicted to Relapse", both from PoemSugar Press.
A writer and social worker educated at Columbia University, Carla is a former foster parent, a devoted godmother and an enthusiastic but very amateur watercolor artist who lives in the heart of York City.
