Beginning August 1, the hourly rate in all three York City Parking Garages will be changed to $2.50 per hour, Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm. Parking is free in York City Parking Garages Monday through Friday 5pm-8am, and Saturdays and Sundays all day. Occasionally a $6 Strand Event fee may be in effect in the Philadelphia Street Garage only during large Strand-Capitol events.

Garage Gate Pilot Program 
Beginning August 1, 2015, the entrance and exit gates at all three York City Parking Garages will be in effect 24 hours a day. To exit the garage from 5pm-8am, a credit card IS REQUIRED for daily charges incurred. Parking will continue to be free from 5pm-8am, however you will be responsible for any charges incurred before 5pm. These fees will be payable ONLY by credit card.

Mission:

To provide parking facilities and services to meet the parking needs of York city residents, businesses and visitors.

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the Parking Bureau is to manage all of the parking facilities owned by the City of York General Authority and the City, which includes three garages and fourteen surface lots. The Bureau is also responsible for meter collection and meter enforcement, meter installation and maintenance.

Monthly parking permits can be purchased at City Hall (101 South George Street). For more information on monthly leasing and billing please call 717-849-2309. 

Discount parking coupons are available for the garages. Each Park and Shop coupon is worth $2.50 off your parking total. The Park and Shop coupons are sold in bundles of 50 for $62.50.  Punch Cards are $87.55 for 40 hours of parking. Special event and evening parking at all garages is $6.00 Please call 717-849-2309 for more information.

Parking FAQs

 

What are the Parking Meter Hours?

All parking meters will be enforced Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Parking meters located in the "Retail Zone" shall also be enforced Saturday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Meter parking is free on Sundays and holidays observed by the City of York.

The "Retail Zone" is:
George Street between King Street and North Street
Beaver Street between King Street and Gas Avenue
Market Street between Duke Street and Pershing Avenue
Philadelphia Street between Duke Street and Pershing Avenue

Meters are marked with the hours of operation and enforcement.

Do you have to pay to park on the street?

Yes. The downtown area has parking meters for on-street parking. All parking meters will be enforced:

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (free on Sundays and holidays observed by the City of York)

Saturday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for parking meters located in the "Retail Zone".

The "Retail Zone" is:
George Street between King Street and North Street
Beaver Street between King Street and Gas Avenue
Market Street between Duke Street and Pershing Avenue
Philadelphia Street between Duke Street and Pershing Avenue

Meters are marked with the hours of operation and enforcement.

The Digital meter rates are: $.25 - 15 minutes; $.10 - 6 minutes; $.05 - 3 minutes. Also, at the digital meters it gives a 3 minutes grace period at the end before expiring. At the mechanical meters the rates are: $.25 - 25 minutes and $.10 - 10 minutes. Mechanical meters only take quarters and dimes (no grace period).
