Mayor’s October Artisan of the Month



On Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 5:00pm, Mayor C. Kim Bracey, will award Ophelia Chambliss as the October “Artisan of the Month” in a ceremony at the intersection of S. Queen Street and E. Princess Street in the city of York, near her permanent installation art sculpture. The ceremony will be free and open to the public and will feature remarks by the selected artist, Ophelia M. Chambliss.
Originally from Chicago, IL and currently residing in York, Pennsylvania, Ophelia M. Chambliss has been successfully working and exhibiting as a fine artist for many years. In addition to a number of solo and group exhibitions, she has participated in several distinguished juried shows. Ophelia holds a Bachelors Degree in Communication Arts and Sciences and a Masters Degree in Communications from Penn State University.
Most of her recent work has been in the realm of public art and murals, due to her strong beliefs in community contribution, collaboration and the challenge of scale. In August 2014, Ophelia was the Yorkfest featured artist. A few of her public sculptures have included an African –American history related piece in Gettysburg, murals for Lincoln Charter School and the York County Community Against Racism and, most recently, for the YWCA of York. 
Prior to her career in Fine Art, she was a business professional in the Publishing Industry field, specializing in Graphic Design and Development. She continues to do freelance work and is a frequent motivational and inspirational speaker at academic, cultural, non-profit and civic venues. To learn more about Ophelia Chambliss, visit her website
