On Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 5:00pm, Mayor C. Kim Bracey will award her September “Artisan of the Month” in a ceremony at YorkArts@CityArts, located at 118 W. Philadelphia Street, York, PA. The ceremony will be free and open to the public and will feature a live performance and remarks by the selected artists, spoken word collective, WordWIDE.
A collective of performance poets and spoken word artists, WordWIDE has been the predominant force in spoken word in the city of York since 2008. They have hosted York’s longest running spoken word event, ArtOfficialMics at venues such as P.O.B. Studio II, Sparky & Clark’s, YorkArts, YorkArts@CityArts and Lux Night Lounge, captivating the community with their eclectic, cultural, and stylistically diverse talent. WordWIDE also prides themselves in being rostered artists with the Cultural Alliance and have become household names throughout the community, especially amongst our youth, through their performances and educational workshops, designed to encourage youth to explore their talents and use their voices artistically, at organizations such as The Salvation Army of York and several schools throughout the city and county of York.
