DON'T FORGET ABOUT YOUR TASTEBUDS

Don’t Forget About Your Tastebuds

In our process of becoming healthier, we all come across that moment when we’re focused on our goal of healthiness that we think it’s not okay to enjoy some of those great tasting foods that we once enjoyed. This is farthest from the truth. The secret is, to enjoy them in moderation, while adding a healthy twist. Forcing yourself into complete abstinence from those foods that you once enjoyed, can lead you to overeating. In return, this can cause you to gain all the weight back that you worked so hard at losing. As suggested by Dr. Newton’s Natural News, “consider making better lifestyle choices, such as: eating more vegetables, limiting the amount of sweets after dinner or only drinking soda on Saturdays.” This basic advice can help in the longevity and successfulness in maintaining a healthier and happier you!
If some of your indulgences happen to be cheeseburgers, pizza, baked macaroni and cheese, and ice cream to name a few, here are a few suggestions to making some healthy changes in those recipes that can keep you enjoying some of your favorite indulgences.
Cheeseburgers: Instead of using ground beef, make the switch to ground turkey. If you’re not a ground turkey fan, try a leaner ground beef and enjoy your burger on a wheat bun.
Pizza: Consider using cheeses made with 2% milk and try some veggie toppings for a change. Tomatoes, broccoli, red peppers, mushrooms, and green peppers added to the top of your pizza always add an interesting flavor and colorful meal for your family. If you happen to be out and about and are dinning at one of our many local pizzerias, choosing a cheese pizza or veggie pizza can be a healthier choice.
Baked Macaroni and Cheese: Make the switch to whole wheat noodles, 2% milk, and 2% milk cheese and forget about the bread crumbs. You’ll still get to enjoy the same meal, just with a slightly healthier kick.
Ice Cream: When choosing your ice cream, Shape Magazine insists on keeping it real. Instead of choosing frozen yogurt and trying to trick your taste buds, “look for homemade style brands made from simple ingredients: milk, cream, sugar, eggs, and flavoring like vanilla bean and stick to a half cup serving.” If your looking to make your ice cream look as delectable as possible, try adding some fresh fruit as toppings.
While keeping in mind of these great suggestions to keep you healthy, remember that portion size and moderation are key to keeping your balance on the scale.
