York City Light Up Night

Light Up Night is a multicultural celebration that features live entertainment, children's activity area, carol sing alongs, the lighting of the York holiday tree, and the arrival of the most important guest, Santa. Fun for the whole family!

We are excited to announce that we have partnered with Martin Library to host an inclusive celebration during this event. 

 

Market Street will be closed from Beaver to Duke Street, George Street will be closed from Phila. To King Street, and Beaver St. will be closed between Market St. and Philadelphia St. The road closures will begin at 4:45PM and end at 8PM. Parking will be restricted in these areas beginning at 2pm.
 

 

Schedule of Events

5:00pm to 7:00 pm-Downtown Inc will present First Friday. Enjoy specials, discounts and entertainment courtesy of downtown York shops, restaurants and nightlife hotspots. First Friday will feature a special holiday shopping passport available from select downtown shops and restaurants. Use the passport to collect stamps and enter to win prizes in a December 10 drawing. Also, enjoy Jazz in the City, hosted by the City of York and The Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, at the Studio. For more information, please visit www.downtownyorkpa.com.
 
5:00pm to 8:00pm-Shining Eye Horse & Buggy will be providing Horse & Carriage rides to attendees. There will be an area in Continental Square for attendees to line up for the rides.
 
5:00pm- Christ Lutheran Church located 29 S. George Street York will host the Gifts that Give Hope Fair. For more information, please visit www.giftsthatgivehope.org.
 
5:00 pm – York County Food Bank will host a Food Drive on the corner of South George and West Market streets in Continental Square.  Patrons are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items.
 
 
5:00pm- The Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania will host a children’s activity area.
 
5:00pm to 5:20pm- York City's own Men on a Mission with LaContiss will perform holiday songs to kick off the entertainment in Continental Square.  For more information, please contact Jack Briscoe at 717-843-4049.
 
5:30pm- The New Hope Academy Charter School Arts Program will perform an excerpt from their Holiday Variety show.
 
5:30pm and 7:30 pm -- Christ Lutheran Church, 29 S. George St., offers two tours of historic property. Tours will take place in church, archives and courtyard, which will be lit with luminaries. Todd Davis will perform on the organ. (Visit www.christlutheranyork.com for more details.)
 
5:45 pm – Greater York Center for Dance will perform dances of holiday favorites and excerpts from The Nutcracker Ballet.
 
6:00 pm – William Penn Pep Band performs holiday sing-a-longs.
 
6:30 pm – Mayor Bracey offers a word of welcome. The tree is lit and Mayor Bracey reads 'Twas the Night Before Christmas.  Santa Claus arrives downtown to Continental Square with Miss York County’s Outstanding Teen 2012.  Patrons will proceed to follow Santa Claus to Martin Library, located at 159 East Market street. The celebration will take place in the Children’s Library. Attendees are instructed to enter through the Children’s Library entrance on Queen Street.
 
6:45 pm to 8:00pm –Children are invited to sit on Santa Claus’ lap to tell him their gift wishes in the Children’s Library of Martin Library.  Martin Library will host an inclusive celebration featuring displays and activities celebrating Hanukah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, and much more!
