KIDS CAN GET HEALTHY TOO!

Please don’t leave out one of the most important components to getting fit, our kids. Encouraging them to become involved in healthy behaviors, activities, and eating can be one of the best pieces of advice that we instill in them. Providing them with direction and wholesome choices, will ultimately lead to a generation of youth enlightened and educated about being as healthy as they can possibly be.
It’s not uncommon for children to become engrossed in texting, video games, talking on the phone, or watching television after school or during the weekend. Not to mention, their thrust towards unhealthy eating. The culmination of these can lead our youth towards developing life- long unhealthy habits and behaviors that we can prevent by merely introducing fresh and innovative approaches to living healthier. Here are some tips to keep are kids moving and choosing the right food choices.
·        Choose a Sunday Fun Day activity that will keep your family moving. Play “Just Dance” together, grab a hula hoop, a jump rope, or create a relay race in your backyard or park.
·        Start purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables in the place of junk food and eat them yourself! If Mom and Dad are doing it, it’s sure to rub off on everyone else in the family!
·        Start packing your children’s lunch and allow them to make healthy choices to place in their lunch box.
·        Ask your children to lead a physical activity for the family and provide examples of activities that are completed in their physical fitness class in school.
·        Strap on your helmets and have a family outing, with a bike ride through the York County Rail Trail. It’s a great way to see all of the neat scenery and history that York City & York County has to offer.
Each of these are excellent suggestions to not only keep your children moving, but also to spend quality family time together. “Making time to exercise as a family can help your health and communication, and allocates time to bond as a family unit,” states SPARK, a research based public health organization that has focused on countering Childhood Obesity since 1989. Let’s keep our youth healthy and happy!
