It’s the New Year and everyone seems to be jumping on the band wagon to get healthy! Every other commercial on television is trying to entice you to take a pill, drink a special juice, join a program, or buy exercise equipment. Often times, there is a fee to utilize these programs, which leaves those that are unable to afford the programs, feeling as if they are unable to take charge of increasing their health.
If you think that you can’t afford to be healthy, guess what? You can not afford not to be healthy. Engaging in healthy behaviors increases your overall health and wellness, self esteem, attitude, and outlook on life. Here are a few suggestions to “Start Something” FREE or close to being free to help you jumpstart your way to a new healthier you.
Start walking: Walking is a free and easy exercise to start for beginners or those that are experienced. It’s an exercise that you can engage in regardless of the weather. You can begin your walking routine during your lunch break, before you start work in the morning, or try leaving your car at home and walk to work. Not only will you increase your health, but the health of the environment. The Heritage Rail Trail Park that goes through the City of York, is also a great place to have your walks, not to mention its nice scenery as well!
Start snacking on fruit or vegetables: Pass on the chips, crackers, donuts, and cookies while grocery shopping and pick up some fruits and veggies. Not only are they loaded with healthy sugars and all the important nutrients that you need to live a healthy life, but you will begin to feel much better and fuller after indulging your mid afternoon craving with a natural sweet made just for you right from our precious earth.
Start dancing: Grab your favorite cd, cassette tape, or 8 track and get movin’! It’s a great way to get your heart pumping, your body moving, and to have fun. Your neighbors or kids might think your crazy, but once they see how your energy level increases, I’m sure they’ll be joining in.
Simply adding one or even all three of these simple suggestions to your week, will surely help to get you moving and help to add some healthy changes to your lifestyle. Just remember, any day can be a new day to start something new.
