York Labor Day Celebration at Kiwanis Lake

Monday, September 5, 2016

Celebrate Labor Day this year at Kiwanis Lake with a wide variety of FREE family friendly activities!

The annual Youth Fishing Derby, sponsored by the York-Adams County Central Labor Council and AFL-CIO, will take place from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for ages 1 through 15. Trophies and prizes will be awarded.  For more information, contact Nancy Stough, the Youth Fishing Derby Coordinator, at 717-873-4458.

A Flea Market will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Approximately 50 vendors have reserved spaces offering a wide variety of items as well as information on area organizations, services, and happenings.

A free bounce house for youngsters will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. thanks to the generosity of York-Adams USW Legislative & Education Committee.

Musical entertainment will be provided throughout the day by Kay’s Reflections, Emigsville Band, Eric DeAlmeida and The Soul Thief, Soji, and the Silver Junction Band. Be sure to also visit the youth fingerprinting station, caricatures by Mel Conrad, Bob’s Critters, Donna Watkins (the Book Bug Lady), the York Revolution mascot, and more.

The Labor Day Committee is also very pleased to welcome York County’s own Olympic Swimmer Hali Flickinger for a meet and greet from 2 to 3 p.m. before she heads off to the York Revolution game where she will be honored.

This year’s Labor Day Celebration theme is Rosie the Riveter and there will be photo stations and coloring pages available for youngsters as well as educational information on this iconic figure.

All day, AFSCME Local 1485 will be collecting donations onsite for Variety--The Children's Charity (for their My Bike program which customizes bikes for disabled children in PA). To learn more about this cause, visit http://www.varietypittsburgh.org/

The day will be capped off with fireworks beginning at dusk.

The Labor Day Celebration is a partnership between the City of York, First Energy Foundation, AFSCME Local 1485, York-Adams Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, York-Adams USW Legislative & Education Committee, and others who wish to help the Labor Day Celebration tradition continue in York.
