TRAFFIC ADVISORY UPDATE

 
West Princess Street Bridge To Close For Repairs
The bridge that carries West Princess Street over the Codorus Creek in York City will be closed until fall for repairs, the York County Board of Commissioners today announced.
 
Weather permitting, repair work on the County-owned bridge is scheduled to begin Monday, April 18 and continue through mid-October.
 
The closure is necessary so construction crews can replace the bridge’s deteriorating superstructure, the upper portion of the bridge that is driven upon by vehicles. The bridge is structurally deficient and has a posted weight restriction that will be lifted upon completion of the work.
 
A detour using West College Avenue and West King Street will be posted to help drivers navigate around the closure.
 
Commissioners approved the bridge construction work in January. Dauphin County-based Deblin, Inc. was awarded a $1.97 million contract, with funding coming from the County’s portion of Marcellus Shale Legacy funds.  
 
An estimated 8,100 vehicles travel the bridge daily

On Saturday, May 28, 2016 The Mudhook Brewing Company will host the First Annual Chili Cook Off in Cherry Lane Park from 11:00am to 5:00pm. As a result, the area of Cherry Lane and Clarke Avenue will experience heavier pedestrian traffic than usual.
 
Motorists are encouraged to exercise patience and use extra caution due to the large number of participants who will be attending this event.

On Saturday, May 28, 2016, The YMCA will be sponsoring the “Annual YMCA Aquatic Club Kid’s Triathlon.”   The Graham Aquatic Center, Kiwanis Lake, and Farquhar Park will all be used for the location of the event.  The event will start at 8:00AM and last until 1:00PM.  Children ages 7 to 14 years old will be eligible to participate in the event.  The events will include bicycling, running, and swimming.  The following streets will be closed during the event:
 
Parkway Blvd. from Smith St to Pacific Ave
Atlantic Ave. from Parkway Blvd to Wood St
Wood St. from Atlantic Ave to Penna Ave
Penna Ave from Noonan to Willis Run Rd.
Madison Ave from N. Penn St to Newberry St
Newberry St. from Jefferson Ave.  to Parkway Blvd
 
Streets posted “No Parking” will include:
 
N. Newberry from Parkway Blvd to Jefferson Ave.
Wood St from Penna Ave to Atlantic Ave.
Parkway from Newberry St. to Atlantic Ave.
Atlantic from Parway Blvd to Wood St.
Pennsylvania from Wood St. to Parway Blvd.
 
 
All streets should be open to traffic by 1:00PM.
 
Motorists should expect minor delays and use caution in the area.

On Saturday, May 28, 2016 The Avenues Neighborhood Association will sponsor the 3rd annual “Spring Be In” event in Kiwanis Lake Park. This event will showcase six different bands for your entertainment from 11:00am to 7:00pm.
 
Motorists are encouraged to exercise patience and use extra caution due to the large number of participants who will be attending this event.

On Saturday, May 28, 2016, We-Co will host “Creek Fire” in Foundry Plaza and the Codorus Boat Basin from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Creek Fires will have food vendors, illuminated art boats, floating fire pits on the water, fire performers, children’s activities and live music.

FRIDAY  JUNE 3, 2016
 
On Friday, June 3, 2016 at 1200 pm The National Street Rod Association will be holding a parade in the City of York to start their 2016 East National Meet.
 
The parade will consist of approximately 50 street rods that will leave the York Expo Center on W. Market St. and travel east on Market St. through West York Borough and the City of York and end at Market St. & Broad St.
 
The parade will last approximately one hour and travelers in the area can anticipate delays in crossing Market St. during this time.  Additionally, Market St. will be shut down to all vehicular traffic along the parade route until the parade has passed. 
 
Motorists are asked to avoid the area during the time of the parade and allow extra time for all trips in the area.  Eastbound motorists are asked to use King St. and westbound motorists are asked to use Philadelphia St.

On Friday, June 3, 2016, the City will be sponsoring its monthly “First Friday” which will run from 5pm until 9pm.  N. Beaver St. between Market and Phila. Sts. will be closed to vehicular traffic from 3:30 until 9:30pm and parking will be prohibited from 3:30pm until 9:30pm

On Friday, June 3, 2016, Royal Square will be sponsoring “First Friday in Royal Square.”   From 3:30pm until 9:30pm., the 100 block of South Duke St. will be closed to vehicular traffic.  Additionally, Parking in that block will be prohibited beginning at 3:30pm and last until 9:30pm.
