TRAFFIC ADVISORY UPDATE

 
West Princess Street Bridge To Close For Repairs
The bridge that carries West Princess Street over the Codorus Creek in York City will be closed until fall for repairs, the York County Board of Commissioners today announced.
 
Weather permitting, repair work on the County-owned bridge is scheduled to begin Monday, April 18 and continue through mid-October.
 
The closure is necessary so construction crews can replace the bridge’s deteriorating superstructure, the upper portion of the bridge that is driven upon by vehicles. The bridge is structurally deficient and has a posted weight restriction that will be lifted upon completion of the work.
 
A detour using West College Avenue and West King Street will be posted to help drivers navigate around the closure.
 
Commissioners approved the bridge construction work in January. Dauphin County-based Deblin, Inc. was awarded a $1.97 million contract, with funding coming from the County’s portion of Marcellus Shale Legacy funds.  
 
An estimated 8,100 vehicles travel the bridge daily

The City of York will be hosting the annual Bike Night on Friday September 23, 2016 in Center City York.  The event will take place from 6 P.M. until 10 P.M. and is a free event to the public.  Visitors to Bike Night will be treated to live music and entertainment as well as food and merchandise vendors selling their wares on Market and George Streets.
 
Motorcycles will flood downtown York starting at 6:00 P.M. when the annual parade leaves the York Fairgrounds by the Market St. gate and travels east on W. Market St., north on Broad St., and west on Philadelphia St., back to the downtown area.  Persons traveling along these routes should expect delays while the roads are closed briefly for the parade.  Keep in mind that King St. and Princess St. can be used as alternate routes for east and west bound travel.
 
     The following streets will be closed from 5:00 P.M. until approx. 11:00 P.M.
      *   W. Market St. from Pershing Ave. to Queen St.
*   Beaver St. from W. King St. to W. Philadelphia St.
*   George St. from King St. to Philadelphia St.
*   Pershing Ave. from W. Market St. to W. Philadelphia St.
***The first block of S. George St will be closed to traffic beginning at 1:30pm and will remain closed until 11:00P.M.***
 
Parking will also be restricted on these streets starting at 1:00 P.M.  Parking will be available for motorcycles only, beginning at 3:00PM.  These restrictions will be lifted at 11PM
 
        Parking will be available at the Philadelphia St. & King St. garages.  Due to the event, the Market St. garage will be         closed.
 
     Persons traveling in the area of this event should expect delays and pay attention to officials directing the traffic flow. 
 
AS WITH ANY SPECIAL EVENT, DOGS AND BICYCLES ARE NOT PERMITTED WITHIN THE EVENT AREA.  PARADE PARTICIPANTS DRIVING RECKLESSLY WILL BE SUBJECT TO ARREST AND IMPOUNDMENT OF THEIR VEHICLES.  MOTORCYCLES NOT MOVED FROM TRAFFIC LANES IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA BY 10 PM WILL BE TOWED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE.
 
 
SEPTEMBER 24, 2016
 
On Saturday, September 24, 2016 the New Covenant Community Church will sponsor “Love over War Fest”, a concert/ block party in the 100 block of South West Street from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Live music and performers will be present, as well as food. During this event, South West Street from King Street to Poplar Avenue will be closed, as well as parking restricted.
 
Motorists are encouraged to exercise patience and use extra caution due to the large number of participants who will be attending this event.  
 
OCTOBER 1, 2016
 
On Saturday, October 1st, 2016, York Flea will host the “York Flea Market” in the 100 block of West Clarke Avenue from 10:00am to 3:00pm. This event is an open-air flea market held in the heart of downtown York featuring crafts, homemade and vintage and vendors from around the South Central, PA region. The 100 block of West Clarke Avenue will be closed for this event.
 
Motorists are encouraged to exercise patience and use extra caution due to the large number of participants who will be attending this event
