On Saturday March 8, 2014, from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm at William Penn Senior High School, the ladies of the Kappa Omicron Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and the City of York, Pennsylvania will present their annual Youth Symposium – “Partners for Progress, Working Together to Build Bridges for Youth”.   The event will focus on the importance of partnerships in the community and coming together to support our youth. Male and female youth are invited, but some topics will specifically focus on young girls, ages 13 – 17 which include our teen affiliate group the Rhoer Club.

The symposium will feature an opportunity for youth to gain valuable information on several topics ranging from healthy behaviors to college preparation assistance, which provide the opportunity for youth to gain insight on living healthy and productive lives from organizations within our community. “Providing an opportunity for our youth to gain access to community resources that can assist in their perseverance, while collaborating as a community, continues as a proven method in ensuring the success of our youth,” states Mayor Bracey.

Chapters nationwide will host the symposiums on Saturday, March 8, 2014, as a unified effort to support youth. We are proud to sponsor this annual youth initiative. The goal this year will be to bring together a “village of support” for young people. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority knows that the youth are our future; we must prepare them so that they can lead the way,” said Bonita M. Herring, 23rd International President of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. "
