3rd ANNUAL LAW ENFORCEMENT

5K TORCH RUN

BENEFITTING SPECIAL OLYMPICS OF YORK COUNTY

May 3, 2014

John Rudy County Park

9:30 am

400 Mundis Race Rd

     York, PA 17403

The F.O.P., Lodge 15 hosted a 5k to benefit Special Olympics of York County on May 5, 2012.   In prior years, one of our officers would coordinate a torch run, where law enforcement would run from the bridge in Wrightsville back into the city to raise awareness about Special Olympics.  This year we decided to revive the torch run, however we made some big changes!!

We raised funds for Special Olympics of York County by holding a 5k open to law enforcement and public alike. During the 5k, athletes from the Special Olympics passed the torch from start to finish.  In addition, we held a one mile walk and a kids fun run.

Special Olympics York County (SOYC) provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for persons with intellectual disabilities.  More than 300 athletes participate in one or more of the 13 sports offered. The program is run entirely by volunteers, who bring their time and talents to coaching, event organizing, management and fund raising.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this event.  Last years event raised over $4,800 for Special Olympics of York County and had over 200 participants.
