 A spaghetti dinner in support of BOP will be held on Sept. 28 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, located at 509 Pacific Ave. in the City of York. The cost is $15 for children ages 14 and over and $10 for children ages 6-13. Children under 6 are admitted FREE. Proceeds from the dinner benefit renovations at Lincoln Park. MARKET STREET GARAGE UNDERGOING RENOVATIONS
If you park your vehicle at the Market Street garage for work or pleasure, there’s some important information you should know. Major renovations of the Market Street garage are underway, according to the City of York General Authority. With your patience and understanding we will transform the Market Street Garage to a facility that will please the eye and that will be safe and convenient and pleasant to use. SPLASH! SUMMER PROGRAM SERIES AT FOUNDRY PARK
The SPLASH! Summer Program Series at Foundry Park on the Codorus is underway and includes a Friday lunch time concert series which continues throughout July, August and September from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. SPLASH! also includes an evening concert series and events for children. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy live music in the park. All events are free and open to the public. Foundry Park is located in the 200 block of West Philadelphia Street. STREET SWEEPING RESUMES
Street Sweeping has resumed in the City of York. The City's Ticket and Tow initiative also continues this year. Vehicles will be ticketed and towed on posted streets. The fine for no parking is $15 and the charge for the tow is $120. Download a complete street sweeping and ticket and tow list for September.

GOODRIDGE FREEDOM HOUSE SEEKS NOMINATIONS
The Goodridge Freedom House will host an Emancipation Proclamation on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Martin Library. Tickets for the event cost $30. To purchase tickets call Cindy Leiphart at 848-3610, ext. 280.
In conjunction with this event, the second annual Goodridge Freedom Awards will be presented to local leaders and businesses for their commitment to civil rights and entrepeneurship in York. The Goodridge Freedom House currently is seeking nominations for the Goodridge Freedom Awards. Nominations are due September 5, 2008. PUT SOME “CLASS” INTO YOUR LIFE!
Recreation is the key to good health, well being and spirit! City and non-city residents have all this and more at their fingertips with a variety of classes offered at the city’s Rotary Kranich Building, 120 South Lehman Street. Classes are geared to beginners as well as those who need a refresher. Classes are held all year long.
Classes are taught in an informal setting with free off-street parking and handicap accessibility. Fees are charged for the classes and supplies (Average class fee is $12.00 city resident/ $15.00 for non-city resident). Actual projects are on display at the Rotary Kranich Building.

YORK CITY POLICE BOOTH AT YORK FAIR 09/02/2008

 The York City Police Department will have a booth with guests at the York Fair from September 5-14, 2008, Monday through Friday, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 9 p.m. The booth will be located outside the Old Main Place, to the left of Kiddie Way.
Drawings for prizes will be held along with a teen quiz. Kid I.D.’s will be available along with appearances by McGruff the Crime Dog and his nephew Scruff.
Other features to this year’s booth include: Fatal Vision Goggles Demonstration Police Vehicles Guests from York Co. Sheriff and Citizen’s Police Academy Police Chaplains Visit with your local officers, ask questions.

HOLIDAY TRASH COLLECTION 08/28/2008

NO TRASH AND RECYCLING COLLECTIONS ON MONDAY, SEPT. 1 DUE TO LABOR DAY HOLIDAY
August 28, 2008 – The City of York announces that due to the Labor Day holiday, there will be no trash and recycling collections on Monday, September 1. All curbside collections (trash, recycling, yard waste and scheduled large items) for Monday through Friday will be delayed by one day. For this week only, ALL Monday collections bump to Tuesday, ALL Tuesday collections bump to Wednesday, ALL Thursday collections bump to Friday and ALL Friday collections bump to Saturday.) MILLING & PAVING SET TO BEGIN 08/19/2008

CITY OF YORK SCHEDULES STREET WORK Richland Avenue, Linden Avenue and Madison Avenue scheduled for Milling and Paving
Mayor John S. Brenner announced the following schedule. Richland Avenue, Linden Avenue and Madison Avenue between Carlisle Avenue and Market Street are scheduled for milling and paving work in the City of York.
Milling will begin on Wednesday, August 20 at 7:00 A.M. with partial lane closures. Streets will reopen to traffic each evening.
Paving work should begin on Monday, August 25 and will take place between 7:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. Lane closures will be required during the paving project. All motorists are advised to obey posted No Parking signs for the duration of this work. The milling contractor for this project is Rota-Mill Inc. and the paving contractor is Kinsley Construction, Inc. C. S. Davidson is providing engineering and inspection services for the project. Questions about the project can be directed to the Department of Public Works at 849-2245.

BRUSH: Bundled branches, each branch must be less than 4” in diameter (maximum bundle size: 3’ x 3’ and 40 pounds); or use authorized yellow yard waste cans (maximum can weight: 40 pounds). LEAVES/PRUNINGS/GARDEN RESIDUE (NO GRASS CLIPPINGS): Use biodegradable kraft paper bags (maximum: 32 gallons; 40 pounds); or use authorized yellow yard waste cans (maximum: 40 pounds).
Customers are reminded that plastic bags should NOT be used and will not be collected for yard waste collections. Customers also should not place bag liners in their yard waste cans. Grass clippings should be placed in with regular trash and will count toward the normal trash bag limit. YARD WASTE SITE WILL OPEN TO YORK CITY CUSTOMERS ONLY.
The City’s Yard Waste Facility at Memorial Stadium will open on Saturday, April 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., weather permitting. Customers must provide proof of customer status or residency, such as a valid license or a recent sewer bill. This drop-off facility is accessible to York City customers only and should be used only during the hours of operation. Violators will be prosecuted under the local ordinance for illegal dumping and may be fined up to $600!

LARGE ITEM COLLECTION SERVICE 02/12/2008

YORK CITY DEPT. OF PUBLIC WORKS 849-2245 - MAIN OFFICE 843-1240 - LARGE ITEM COLLECTION SERVICE CITY REMINDS RESIDENTS TO USE LARGE ITEM COLLECTION SERVICE.  In an effort to keep City properties and streets clean, the City of York reminds residents to use the large item collection service. Household items that do not fit the weight and size limits for regular trash are “large items.” Violations of Article 951 of the City's codified ordinances could result in fines up to $600 per occurrence.
  Here’s how the large item collection service works:
Large items must be scheduled about a week in advance. York City refuse customers only may schedule up to five (5) household furniture/appliance items each week, as needed. There are some items that will not be collected through the City’s curbside program and that must be handled privately. Please see attached list for items included and excluded from this program. To schedule a large-item pick up please call 843-1240 Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
A complete list of items that may be scheduled for large item collection is available for viewing. Remember, large items must be scheduled in advance.
